Do not update! We will be running 1.6 till there’s an update for bukkit.

We have built a village area for protection in Survival world. Everyone can have a 10x10x20 area, where you can store your valuables. You can build below and above that mark but that won’t be protected.

So if you want an area go past the temple of worlds, then head NE you will see an open spot. Let me(or mod tomorrow) know what plot you want. And we can assign them to you.

After a very close battle between ninjawh0re and PompadourJay, PsychoSuzy has won the first match in the SuperMinerBros Spleefing Championship and is the glorious recipient of the Spleefing Shovel.

Canison, libelle and cypher1024 registered but did not score due to lame tactics/not being present.

It soon became clear that spleefing while walking backwards was a flawed strategy. Some tried to use the sand blocks to their advantage, but inevitably failed.

Ten rounds were played in all, with a final ultimate deathmatch using the snow and hell fields. PompadourJay took an early lead, with ninjawh0re soon catching up. PsychoSuzy remained on one torch until late in the match – after the final round, three players were tied.

A final tiebreaker was held, in which ninjawh0re hit the lava fairly early, with PsychoSuzy and PompadourJay using the cagey “run next to each other in circles around the field leaving dangerous trails to fall down” tactic. After a bitter fight, Pomp finally dropped through the field and hit the lava bath.

A ceremony was held, followed by a celebratory orgy in the Spleefing Bath.

I will be looking to hold a preliminary Spleefing match this coming Friday the 10th June, 2011. I will be online from 4pm Sydney time onwards (+10 GMT for you international noobs) to Spleef the hell out of you. It will be held at /warp sphere unless Cypher1024 has something to say about that.

In case you haven’t competed before the rules of Spleefing are this:

1. All players on Spleefing field equip diamond shovels
2. When the referee shouts “GO” you must try to dig the ground out from beneath your opponents, causing them to fall and therefore lose.
3. Last man on top wins.
4. Once you have fallen, you may not step back onto the field until the next round, and should warp to scoreboard to watch the end of the match.
5. Standing on the iron blocks is allowed, but you forfeit if you make the 2nd last player fall while standing on one.

To enter, simply show up at the sphere at the appointed time and your name will be added to the scoreboard.

Scoring will be kept with torches. The referee will place a sign with your name on it in the scoring area, and will place redstone torches behind it for each point that you score as last man alive.

There are three levels in the Spleefing Sphere – Snow, Hell and Grass. Hell requires a pickaxe. Dropping into the lava underneath Grass means you have lost and should warp to /scoreboard where there will be a small pool for you to “cool off” in.

Matches will be played on Grass only, except for finals which start from Snow.

This area is the oldest part of the map, built before many modern conveniences that would now make all of this much easier than it was. It is sometimes also known as Omnombuland.

Built by Omnombulist, the Castle stretches into fog, at any rendering distance. A well stocked library is nearby, with the Spawn tower located just outside the Castle walls, near the Highway 101 route.

Two giant dudes appear over one wall of the castle, holding a giant ball of lava. It’s pretty epic, you should go and check it out first hand, and experience some ancient Minecraft culture from the time before east facing stairs!

Legends say there are underground catacombs that extend for hundred of chunks in all directions, even linking up with the ancient land of Herbivia, and an old subway system.

So basically I tried to make a 3 block high lava fountain, fucked up, and then this happened. Turns out flattening a HUGE area and then using /drain within that can have dire consequences. Oh well. It all got cleaned up very quickly so we can laugh about it now.

A new city is to be founded in the east and we need some buildings to fill it with!

I am running a competition to design an urban themed building.

To be eligible it must be:

*above ground
*30 blocks high at least, maximum of 60
*no more than 20 by 20 wide
*minimum of 10 by 10 wide
*no water or lava
*urban themed (interpret this how you will)

It can be made out of anything except lava, water and banned materials. Redstone circuits are not only permitted, but encouraged.

You may ask for mod handouts to complete your building.

To enter, submit pictures of your urban tower in this thread by the end of March. I will make a poll and you can all vote on the best ones, which will then be cut and pasted into the new city. The top five entries will have streets named after them, with an entire central plaza dedicated to the winner.

Probably all the eligible entries will be used in the city, but the most popular ones will be used the most.

At /warp lbox, there is a giant mess. I was about to delete it all but some have requested I leave it as a resource for scavengers. Basically it is pasted pieces of Canison’s Cube of Delight, with bits cut out here and there. It’s easy to get lost in it and its pretty freaky and full of monsters.

Feel free to visit the warp, everything there is free to a good home.

Stay tuned for Canison’s finished Cube – it’s going to be awesome!

Bearfather is our resident redstone mad scientist.

His creations can be seen just south west of spawn, if you follow Highway 101 south. Turn off onto Electronic Avenue, and check out his giant display, which will blink “Hello” if you flick the right lever.

Below, we are lucky enough to have the man himself give us a guided tour of his area:

BearFather’s Land – Overviewer Map Link

BearFather is known for lighting up the server with his mad scientist redstone inventions – head south from spawn to check out some of his handy work along Electronic Avenue.

He has been with us since the Joining, and will help you out with planning circuitry if you ask nicely.

So your coming from spawn, either your new or you had a slight accident.  But whats all this flashing I see?

Just follow the lights, why not bugs do it.

But don’t forget the boat house if you want to make a watery escape.  Fully automated boat dispenser.  Must see and use attraction.

Right next to it you will see my first building when I came to SMB.  You can also see part of the mad lab behind it.

Here is the Hanging gardens and the back side of my Mad Lab.

Behind the evil tower was my second build and a very annoying one too…Skullport.  It has a an auto minecart station to the castle(old spawn).  And one coming back to it.

To left of this you can find my flashing “HELLO” sign.

And next to that is my failed monster.  When it’s in full power mode it will slow down the server and crash your client.  I hate it.  But its a programmable display with a on and off switch.

Now lets get back to the road…

Farther down the road, you have a small little maze I made, be careful wrong turn and your stuck, or you need to find out the combo to get out.  Right past it is my tree house/cottage.  Took 2 weeks of idling to get all those damn trees to grow.

On the way to the end on the left you have the prettiest thing I’ve ever made and it was stolen from reddit:) Looks real cool at night.

Then at the end of Electronic Ave, you have the RedStone Fields.  A place where there is an example or two of most of the known Circuits in MineCraft.  I urge you to check it out and ask me questions.  Above it is Bowser’s throne from Mario Galaxy 2

On the other side of these teaching fields we have the Castle Of Light!  It is my castle of protection.  There’s healing, food and other supplies needed for the great wild expanse.  But it still stands after part of it was ripped away by Evil magic.  Rumors are the missing part is lost in the nether, with many of the MadScientists greatest treasures.

Around the corner of my castle you have my 4 frame LCD.

Then Wrapping up this awesome tour of this totaly ugly but fasinating tour is a shot of my Ice tower and back side of Castle of Light.

I hoped you enjoyed this great tour.  And since you was such a polite and respectful touree I have a small surpise for you.  No it’s not Cake.

Here’s two snap shots of my current projects…

This is my scrolling display I’m working on.  It’s pissing me off is all I have to say.  And don’t think SMP can handle the load too well either.  But it’s half done.  I got the 42 frames timed and firing just have to add all 42 frames info.

Now the project taking my mind off that display is my cool little city of sphere’s.  it’s cool looking and coming along.  Even got a fountain that heals ya if you pray to it:)

Now go bug off and play some MineCraft it’s Bowl time!

Thankyou BearFather!

Far, far to the East, crazy admin scientists have spent hours trying to create an alternate sun. After countless deaths, and burnt chickens, this is what they made.

May the zombies know and fear it!

*Beware, this site is extremely dangerous, and you should not enter unless wearing the appropriate safety equipment. (Hint: There is none. Nothing will save you from this ball of death)

Rumour has it there is a way inside, but sounds like bullshit to me. I bet there’s awesome treasure in here though.

Remember kids, play with lava responsibly. Or something like this could happen.

UPDATE: Strange happenings have been spotted at the Lava Testing Ground. Approach with caution. Some have even told tales of Ghasts, but surely they only exist in legend. Right?

*Note: the Lava testing ground is available for all your testing needs. Please do what the fuck you want within its snowy walls. It is not protected land. Feel like playing with fire? Want to see what a tnt cannon can do? Do it here, away from the normal people.

If there’s one thing about Minecraft that drive people crazy it’s the lack of a compass. Sense of direction (and location) is severely undermined by a non-intuitive co-ordinates system. This is never more apparent than when a map is generated. Some maps show north to the right, others to the bottom. In-game the clouds always flow to the north but that doesn’t help much at night or underground! Well, we couldn’t fix that but we managed to make a start on the idea of a big floating compass:

That then raised the question of how do you know how big something is? So, with much reluctance (operating on a 1 tile wide platform 60 meters above the ground isn’t always fun!) we constructed a scale to go alongside the compass!

This scale isn’t as easy to read on the isometric maps as hoped, mostly because the intent was for it to be seen on top-down maps, but it still works pretty well. Markings are at 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 (yes it’s 200 meters long!). If nothing else, seeing this on the overall map gives you an idea just how massive this game can be.

Initial concept: Lurgen
Design and layout: Lurgen
Primary construction: Lurgen
Construction support: Libelle
Primary material source: User-provided (mined on-site and remotely), all standard materials obtained and placed by hand
Admin-provided resources?: Conversion of structures to obsidian via cmod to enhance visibility
Construction commenced: Jan 2011
Construction completed: Jan 2011

Few simple shapes are as recognisable as NASA’s Space Transportation System (STS), better known as “The Space Shuttle”. Truly one of mankinds most impressive machines, this re-usable space ship was the planet’s first attempt at a fully re-usable way to leave the Earth (and, at least most of the time, return home). This monument to the Shuttle program has only been seen by a handful of people. Fortunately, it’s also visible from space! Ironic eh?

This isn’t a complex build but it is pretty much perfect in terms of scale and visual impact, something that is really quite difficult to manage.
